Automatically Gathered Personal Information(1) Website Visits
J.T. Insurance’s website server automatically collects the following non-personally identifiable information from visitors to the website:
- the web browser and operating system you are using;
- the date and time of the visit;
- the the sections of the website you visit, as well as the pages read and the images viewed;
- certain content that you download from the J.T. Insurance website;
- if you were on another website before visiting J.T. Insurance website, the URL (web address) of that previous website, if it referred you to J.T. Insurance website;
- the URL of the first website you visit immediately upon leaving J.T. Insurance website, if you were referred to that website by J.T. Insurance website;

We do not link any of the above information with information that is personally identifiable to you. We collect this data in an aggregate format for a number of reasons, including to understand the traffic on our website, how it is used, and how we can improve it. For example, the information about our visitors’ browsers tells us what kind of browsers we need to support. Other information lets us know how many visitors come to our site and what sections are the most popular. We do not share this aggregate data with third parties.(2) Cookies

Generally, the information we use relates directly to the provision of insurance services and the purpose for which you have provided it to J.T. Insurance. We use information from the website to respond to specific requests from you, to process suggestions and comments provided by you, to otherwise administer your relationship with J.T. Insurance (including contacting you about insurance matters), and to facilitate such other services and activities as we may identify at the time. J.T. Insurance also collects information about its website and the information and services on it to better understand general user trends at an aggregate level, to promote and improve its services, and to assess web performance, web services, and for website maintenance. J.T. Insurance may also use information it collects for the purposes of an investigation into a breach of the terms of use of the website, or other legal requirement.
Marketing Communications
J.T. Insurance may contact you in different ways. It may contact you to inform you about products or services by mail, e-mail, telephone or other means to which you have agreed. With your express consent, J.T. Insurance may also use the personal information you provide to send you information about special offers and promotions, news releases, information which may be of interest to you, or other electronic communications. In order to do this, your information may be shared with a third party, for example, a marketing and communications company. These electronic communications will provide you with our contact information and a method to opt-out of receiving further communications from us with each email or other electronic communication we send you. 5. DISCLOSURE OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
With the exception of our third party service providers, J.T. Insurance will only share your personal information outside J.T. Insurance with your consent, or where we use it to provide you with products and services you request. For example, when it is required to provide you with the information or services you have requested, in which case we will consider you to have given implied consent (e.g. an insurance quote). The third party service providers will have access to personal information needed to perform their functions, but are only provided the limited amount of information required to perform their services.
J.T. Insurance uses third party service providers for the purpose of sending out certain electronic communications. Currently, these providers include Constant Contact, Inc., Evite, Inc., and Paperless Inc. In using these services, J.T. Insurance will provide these service providers with personal information such as your name and e-mail address.
If you make in inquiry for an insurance quote online, we use a third party service provider, Applied Systems Inc. (“Applied”), to process your inquiry for insurance services. J.T. Insurance also uses Applied to host its data, including personal information, on a cloud server. Applied also provides and operates a Applied CSR24, a software product that J.T. Insurance uses to enable you to access your account through its secure online portal or a mobile app. If you set up an online account, you can log on to the online portal or mobile app to access your J.T. Insurance-related insurance information online. All information supplied to Applied by J.T. Insurance is transmitted using a secure server and then encrypted.
Applied, Constant Contact, Inc., Evite, Inc., and Paperless Inc. are services located outside of Canada, which means that your personal information may be subject to being stored and accessed pursuant to the laws of the United States of America. If you have any questions about J.T. Insurance’s policies and practices with respect to service providers outside of Canada, including their collection, use, disclosure, and storage of personal information, you can contact the J.T. Insurance Privacy Officer at the contact information listed at the end of this statement.
When J.T. Insurance uses third party service providers, it requires the providers to protect your personal information in accordance with the law and with the same or more stringent security and privacy standards than J.T. Insurance. Any such disclosure of your personal information by J.T. Insurance to a third party service provider will be conditional upon the information being used solely for the purpose for which it has been disclosed.
J.T. Insurance may also disclose your personal information where authorized or required by law. For example, we may disclose your personal information to comply with a subpoena, in response to a law enforcement body with the lawful authority to obtain the information, pursuant to an investigation into the breach of a law, or to our legal counsel.
6. PROTECTION OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
J.T. Insurance takes reasonable steps to protect your personal information. We use security arrangements to protect against unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure and disposal. These security measures include the following:
- restricting access to our systems, applications and collected data to authorized personnel only;
- use of firewalls; and
- training of staff on privacy and confidentiality practices.
